Traditional Massage
This is a classic type of massage. Client will disrobe to their level of comfort, and be draped with a sheet.  Your privacy and integrity will be highly regarded.  This type of massage will be mostly Swedish using massage oils, involving firm, long, kneading strokes, often combined with some movement of the joints. It is a relaxing, and energizing massage. For areas that need a bit more work, muscle tightness, adhesions, scar tissue, etc. myofascial release may be used, which involves very slow, gentle, but firm sustained pressure to connective tissue with restrictions.
Together we may decide to add a more medical or clinical approach, which could involve assessments that will take into account your hips, are they level, are they rotated, etc? Your feet, how you stand, your posture, your symmetry.  We'll likely talk about your job, your hobbies that may be contributing to asymmetry  and therefore causing certain muscles to tighten and become short, while others are stretched long and weak.
Other modalities that may be included in your massage:

    1.     Targeted muscle work
    2.    A "scraping" technique (promise it won't hurt!) to work on muscle adhesions and scar tissue
    3.    Trigger point release,
    4.    Hypervolt massage gun (by Hyperice) which provides gentle percussion to muscles
    5.    MET muscle energy technique, or PNF Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation: a type of manual therapy where the client may hold an isometric stretch, then the therapist assists the client to a deeper stretch, to help the muscle lengthen
All of these types of massage can be relaxing, soothing, can release overall muscle tightness,  can help to prevent injuries with sports, to loosen up before a big sporting event, to increase range of motion and flexibility, to improve muscle strength.

ASHIATSU:  BAREFOOT MASSAGE
Ashiatsu, or Barefoot Massage is delivered by a specially trained therapist, who steps up onto the table while the client is typically face down. The therapist supports themselves with bars and a strap that are installed above the massage table, which allows the therapist to control the amount of body weight that is applied to the client. Oil is applied by the therapist with their hands to distribute it evenly, and warm the tissues. The therapist's feet are sanitized before each session. This type of massage delivers deep compression, and long, luxurious gliding strokes. The foot is a broader surface that can apply diffused, smooth pressure. For most of the session, the client is face down.  At the end, some work is done while the client is face up. The face is always massaged with the therapist's hands. Most clients typically comment that they cannot believe it's my feet delivering the massage!  They also often report that the effects of the massage last longer than a hands on massage.

Neuromuscular Cupping Therapy:

Cupping is an ancient therapy that has been used around the world.  I use silicone cups of varying sizes, first gliding across the skin, then letting the cups sit stationary, along certain muscles, where trigger points may be, while guiding you to activate those muscles, then I will stretch those muscles.  Cupping combined with massage can create a nice push/pull effect: my hands provide pressure, moving tissue, and the cups suction, to pull the tissue, allowing the fascia to separate and bring fresh blood to a stagnant area.  I use cups to enhance my massage techniques, creating a deeper tissue massage.

Cupping may leave marks on the skin.  When cups are applied, the suction effect helps pull the tissue and fascia up and separates them. Cupping helps to break up adhesions or trigger points (knots in the muscle) and may bring stagnant blood to the surface, leaving a mark.  These marks are not painful. Over the next few days, they will look like bruises, and turn colors like a bruise, purple, brown, yellow.  It is recommended to drink plenty of water after receiving a cupping session.  After a cupping session it is important to avoid extreme temperatures, for example, do not apply ice to the area, or do not sit in a hot tub.

Certain areas of the body are never cupped, like the front of the neck, back of the knees, or highly vascularized areas. The lateral neck and face may be cupped,  but gently cupped and immediately released, as not to leave visible marks.
CBD oil is often paired with cupping to enhance the therapeutic properties of both modalities.  CBD oil can help to reduce inflammation, soothe muscles, provide relief from chronic pain, soothe anxiety and melt tension.  At the end of your cupping massage, I will apply arnica gel which can help reduce the markings left from cupping.

Cupping can be very therapeutic for many conditions like, neck pain, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff issues, elbow pain, wrist pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, hip dysfunction and pain, sciatica pain, runner’s knee, shin splints, calf pain, plantar fasciitis, among other conditions.  We can talk about a plan for cupping, as cupping a specific problem area is best done in several sessions.  After one session, you may feel some relief, but often, it is ideal to treat with cupping once every 5-7 days for a few weeks, to get on top of the pain, then back off to a more manageable frequency.

Contraindications:  DO NOT BOOK A CUPPING APPOINTMENT if you have ANY of the following conditions:
1.    You are taking prescription blood thinners.
2.    You have liver or kidney disease.
3.    Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
4.    You have heart problems or at risk of stroke.
5.    If you are undergoing treatment for cancer.

*Cups are thoroughly cleansed then soaked in a high level disinfectant to sanitize them*
